“In 2017, I had an idea in my grade 12 entrepreneurship class at Chilliwack Secondary School to start a junk removal business. I thought it would help me earn a good grade in my class while also providing an opportunity to make some extra money. My approach was to donate or recycle everything I took away, instead of just bringing it all to the landfill as a dump run service. By finding new homes for the items I removed, I could take pride in the service I offered. I named it Chilliwack Junk Solutions because, when possible, I’d provide an alternative solution for items that didn’t involve the landfill.
I started with a friend’s small trailer and my old 2002 Ford Ranger. My first job was in the spring of 2018 when a tenant left all their belongings behind at a client’s property. I quoted $250 for the job, but it required 16 hours of work from me and my worker, in addition to $220 in dump fees and $20 in gas. I wondered if junk removal was a poor business choice or if I just needed to improve my methods. Thankfully, I chose the latter. Soon, I was getting calls from clients throughout the Fraser Valley needing our services, and within months, I received my first calls from businesses like Earls and Marks, as well as realtors like Sarah Toop and Sabrina Vanderbrink.
Then I realized there was a bigger opportunity. This service could benefit many people across the Fraser Valley. I understood that my business name needed to reflect this vision. So, I changed it to Fraser Valley Junk Solutions with the tagline “Get Junk Gone.” I was able to grow by hiring more staff and investing in better trucks and equipment. Fraser Valley Junk Solutions continues to be the largest junk removal company in the Fraser Valley thanks to our strong work ethic, friendly service, transparent pricing, and commitment to keeping items out of the landfill.”
